About Me
Hello Tumblr World!
My name is Courtney and I’m a 24 year old Australian girl living in London on a two-year working visa. I arrived in January 2011 and plan to leave late February 2013. Living abroad has been an incredible experience - meeting beautiful people and making life long friends, travelling to amazing parts of the UK and Europe and getting involved in the British culture and all that it has to offer.
When I arrived at Heathrow London Airport from Sydney, I was approx. 48kgs (roughly 105lbs) which has been my average weight since my gap year after high school in 2006. However, after 4 months of travelling Europe, drinking like a fish and over-indulging on all of the delicious food that this side of the world has to offer, the weight sneakily began to pile on.
By May that same year, I had gained over 10kg (approx 22-23lbs). I knew I’d put on a bit of weight, but had no idea how much until I went for my first checkup at the doctors since living in London. I stood in absolute horror as the scales went to 59.8kgs. I’d heard of the infamous “Heathrow Injection”, but did not think it could happen to me as I’ve always been quite slim and could always eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, without doing any exercise at all.
The months went by, and I continued to eat and drink like a trooper, travelling here and there and still tasting (gorging) all the local produce. I never weighed myself again after the doctors, but I’m going to guess that I put on another 3-4kgs. It wasn’t until my trip to Scotland in January this year, 2012, that I decided to do something about my horrendous weight gain. It all started when I was about to embark on a day of snowboarding. I went to get into my snow gear that I’d worn a year before in Poland, and nothing zipped/buttoned up. My pants, my jacket … nothing. I’d well and truly had a solid dose of the Heathrow Injection. I was SO ashamed all day, and promised myself that as soon as I arrived back in London things would change.
I’ve never enjoyed exercise and ALWAYS enjoyed junk food. Problem is, my metabolism just isn’t what it used to be. So the past 6 months of changing my diet and exercising 4-5 times a week has been a HUGE shock to the system, but a shock that I’m well and truly enjoying! I’m currently at 53kgs and have noticed a massive improvement in my fitness, state of mind, looks (hair, skin, body) and confidence. I have a sailing trip to Croatia planned for July 16th, so I’m hoping to be down to about 48-50kgs by then. Knowing that Croatia is just around the corner is a great motivator … my workouts will increase and I will be extra diligent when it comes to my food intake.
